Roles we are recruiting for. Titles are serious. The job descriptions are not. Mostly.

  • Ratings
Ratings, Analytics & Algorithms Executive Director
    Now recruiting

Every park has someone who is definitely a 4.0, and an app somewhere that disagrees. We would like our own math. Build a rating that comes out of actual park play: who showed up, who they beat, what it cost them. Then defend it to a person holding a paddle and a grievance. Must be fluent in regression and willing to publish a number people will argue with. When a 3.5 demands to know how it was calculated, the approved answer is that the calculation is proprietary.

  • Legal
    In-House Counsel

Read the waiver. Love the waiver. Defend the waiver. Also available for emergency opinions on whether a kitchen violation is a crime, a tort, or just bad sportsmanship. Bar admission preferred. Ability to say "that's not how liability works" on a public court required.

  • People
    Chief People Officer
    Now recruiting

Somebody has to mediate the "we were here first" disputes, draft the vibe code, and explain why yelling at a 3.0 is not a performance review. Ideal candidate: calm under fire, fluent in passive-aggressive paddle taps, and able to file a complaint about stack etiquette without starting a second war.

Ethics & Compliance Officer Executive Director
    Now recruiting

Investigate whether that "out" call was sincere. Audit paddle bags for undeclared ringers. Publish the annual report on who keeps walking through the kitchen like it is a hallway. Must be comfortable saying "that is a compliance issue" while people are actively mid-point.

    Ian Myers Chief Ranking Officer

If you hear someone shouting at Southwest Park, it's probably Ian. When he's not playing, he's checking DUPR, comparing ratings and unofficially ranking the entire park. That makes him exceptionally well equipped to serve as Battle of the Parks Chief Ranking Officer, even if he sometimes seems more interested in the rankings than the actual game. He has no official authority over rankings or player selection. He will be responsible for implementing a ranking system.

    Paul Mastaj
    Paul Mastaj Founder

Paul started Battle of the Parks after deciding ordinary pickleball was apparently not complicated enough. He handles the format, recruiting, park diplomacy, rules, website and whatever controversy emerges next. He is also mildly obsessed with AI, which means no spreadsheet, ranking system or operational problem is ever safe from being "optimized." His background in finance prepared him well for the role, mostly because he was already accustomed to overanalyzing numbers and arguing about risk.
